Vibe Coding with NocoDB Apps
Copy a prompt, paste it into NocoAI in any base, and replace the words in [brackets] with your own.
- Build an app for [the sales team] to track [deals] and log [calls]
- Build a [client portal] where each [customer] sees only their own [projects]
- Build an internal tool on our [Postgres] [orders] table for [the support team]
Vibe coding is a way to make software: you describe what you want to an AI in plain language, and the AI writes the code. NocoDB Apps bring vibe coding to enterprise-grade work apps: the apps that a team uses every day to run the business. You describe the app to NocoAI, and NocoAI builds it on your data, with access rules, an API and safe deploys.
What is vibe coding?
Vibe coding means that you describe the result, and an AI writes and changes the code. You test the result, say what to change, and repeat. Andrej Karpathy used the term in February 2025, and it is now the common name for building software with AI prompts.
In NocoDB, the conversation happens in NocoDB's AI app builder. You type a change in the chat, NocoAI changes the app, and the live preview shows the result.
Is vibe coding safe for work apps?
Vibe coding is safe for work apps when the platform enforces the rules, not the generated code. In NocoDB Apps, the app reaches data only through actions, and NocoDB checks each action against the team of the person who runs it. Pages are private until you make them public, and a deploy that makes pages public needs a review first.
See Secure vibe coding for every control.
What does a work app need that a prototype does not?
A prototype must look right. A work app must also be correct, safe and dependable, because people use it for their work. NocoDB Apps give each app these parts from the first build:
| A work app needs | NocoDB Apps |
|---|---|
| The real data of the business | Apps run on NocoDB tables, your own PostgreSQL or MySQL database, or synced tools. See Data for apps. |
| Different access for different people | Teams, action grants and record rules. See Members and teams. |
| Some pages for the public | Public pages that you choose, with a review before they go live. See Public access. |
| Changes that do not break the work | A live preview, environments, deploy review and version restore. See Deploy an app. |
| Access for other systems | A REST API and an MCP server for each app. See App API and MCP. |
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You build the app in the chat. NocoAI writes the pages, the actions and the access rules, and it tests the actions that it writes. When something breaks, click Fix it in the chat. See Fix errors.
Can I vibe code an app on my existing database?
Yes. Connect your PostgreSQL or MySQL database to a base, or sync data from tools such as HubSpot and GitHub. Then build the app on that base. The data stays in its source, and the app has no record limit. See Data for apps.
Which apps can I vibe code with NocoDB?
Any web app that works on the data of a base. Teams often build:
| App | Example |
|---|---|
| Internal tools | An order desk for the support team on the company database. |
| Client portals | A portal where each customer sees only their own records. |
| Booking and request apps | A public booking page for a clinic, with an internal schedule for the staff. |
| Field and mobile apps | A check-in app that an event team uses on phones. |
| Approval apps | Expense or purchase approvals, where only managers can approve. |
How do I start vibe coding with NocoDB?
- Open a base, and click App in the mini sidebar. Or create a base with Build with AI.
- In the chat, describe who uses the app and what they must do.
- Test the app in the preview. Ask NocoAI for changes.
- Click Deploy. The app goes live at its own address.
- Add people in Members and teams.
For each step in detail, see Create an app.
How do I write a good prompt?
Tell NocoAI who uses the app, what they must do, which data it uses, what is public, and which services it calls. Give one goal at a time. See Describe the app well.
