Each NocoDB interface page uses a layout, and this page shows which layout to select for each use case.

Each page in an interface uses a **layout**. The layout sets the structure and purpose of the page. You select a layout when you create an interface or add a page. You cannot change the layout later. But an interface can have many pages, and each page can have its own layout.

## Pages, modals, and side sheets

Most pages show full-screen in the interface navigation. A page can also show as a **modal** or **side sheet**. [Record detail pages](/docs/interfaces/layouts/record-detail) usually open this way when a user clicks a record.

Pages that are hidden from the navigation stay available for this contextual use. They only do not show as a navigation entry.
