Fields, field groups, action buttons and user filters are the elements of record-centric NocoDB interface pages.

Form, record review and record detail pages use the same set of elements: **fields**, **field groups**, **buttons** and **user filters**. To configure an element, select it on the canvas. Its settings show in the properties panel.

## Field elements

A field element shows one field of the connected table.

| Option | Description |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Label** | Replace the label of the field, or hide the label fully. |
| **Helper text** | Guidance that shows with the field. |
| **Permissions** | View-only or editable. Editable fields can also allow inline editing on the page. |
| **Rules** | Required, default value, character limit, validators and conditional visibility. Record detail and record review pages offer **Required** only. NocoDB applies it when the page opens as a form to create a record. |
| **Select options** | For select fields: limit the options that users can select. You can also let users add new options. |
| **Appearance** | Input size (default, large, extra large), style variants (for example, a select shown as a field, list or stepper) and width (third, half or full row). |
| **Show as** | For link fields on record detail and record review pages: show linked records inline as pills or cards, or as an embedded view. See [Linked records](/docs/interfaces/layouts/record-detail#linked-records). |

## Field groups and rows

You can put fields in **groups**. Each group can have a title, a description and a background color. You can arrange groups side by side in **rows**. Groups also control:

| Setting | What it controls |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **Field labels** | The label position: next to the field or above it. |
| **User actions** | If users can edit inline in the group. |
| **Conditional visibility** | Shows or hides the full group based on record values. |

In the **Fields** panel, the header of a group has the same width and hide controls as its field rows. These controls apply to all fields in the group at the same time. Fields that the table requires stay visible.

To arrange fields, rows and groups, drag them.

## Buttons

Buttons let users do actions from a page. You can put buttons in these places:

* The header of a table page.
* Above a record review list.
* The header of a dashboard group.
* Next to the title of the record sheet that opens from any page (**Page › Record › User actions › Buttons**).
* Next to the title of the record pane on a record review page.
* On a field group in a record sheet.

Each button has a label, a color and one of these actions:

| Action | Description |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Go to external URL** | Open an external link. |
| **Go to interface page** | Go to a page in this interface or in a different interface of the base. |
| **Open record creation form** | Open a form to create a new record. Use the **Form** dropdown to select the form that the button opens. The dropdown can also create a new form, duplicate the current form, and rename and delete the forms in its list. Each entry shows the number of places that use it. |
| **Update record** | Set field values on the current record. For example, an "Approve" button sets Status to Approved. Optionally, go to the next record after the update. You can also change the color and label of the button after the update. |
| **Copy link to record** | Copy a link to the current record. |
| **Delete record** | Delete the current record. Confirmation is on by default, and the toast offers Undo. |
| **Go to URL in record** | Open the URL in one of the URL fields of the record. |
| **Run automation** | Run a workflow through the [When a button is clicked](/docs/workflows/nodes/trigger-nodes/button-clicked) trigger. On a record sheet, record pane or field group, NocoDB sends the open record as input. On a page header, list toolbar or dashboard group, the workflow runs without a record. |

| Placement | Available actions |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Where a record is open: the record sheet, the record pane of a record review page and field groups | Record actions: Update record, Copy link to record, Delete record, Go to URL in record |
| Page-level placements | Open record creation form, Go to interface page, Go to external URL, Run automation |

On record placements, the first button shows inline. The other buttons go into a `⋯` menu. **Rules › Visibility** can show or hide a button based on the values of the open record.

<img alt="Record sheet buttons with the overflow menu open" src={__img2} placeholder="blur" />

Visibility rules are available on NocoDB Cloud (Business plan and above) and on licensed self-hosted deployments.

For important actions, turn on **Require confirmation**. A confirmation dialog then shows before the action runs. You can set a custom title and message for the dialog.

## User filters

User filters are controls for end users. They decrease the number of records on a page. There are two types:

<img alt="User filters" src={__img3} placeholder="blur" />

| Type | Description |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Tabs** | A row of tabs at the top of the page. Each tab is a filter condition. You can add an optional **All records** tab. On [table pages](/docs/interfaces/layouts/table), a tab can also change the active visualization. |
| **Dropdown** | A dropdown for a single-select field, with a condition (is, is not, is empty, is not empty) and an optional default value. |

NocoDB applies user filters after the filters that you configure in the builder. Users can only show less of the data that you selected to show. They can never show more.
